In Europe, the transport is responsible for the presence of harmful levels of substances atmospheric pollutants and a quarter of the greenhouse gas emissions present in the EU. To reverse this negative trend, today more than ever, it is necessary to support and promote one more sustainable mobility.

In a recent analysis, the European Environment Agency (EEA) assessed theenvironmental impact of transport highlighting a slight improvement that has nothing to do with the sustainable mobility but it is mainly related to the reduction of economic activities during the recession. Despite the slight improvement, the data relating topollution produced by the sector of transport are tragic:

“People who live in close proximity to busy streets across Europe they are particularly exposed to high levels of air pollution. Harmful levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) higher than the legal limits were recorded in 2010 in 44% of the air monitoring stations installed along the roads. THE particulate levels (PM10) exceeded the limits in 33% of these sites. These pollutants they can have consequences on the cardiovascular system, lungs, liver, spleen and blood. "

The rules EUR for the motor vehicles have produced a substantial improvement in air quality but the objectives to be achieved are still far from the current results. In practice, the rates have not yet been reduced emissions of nitrogen dioxide, mainly produced by freight transport.

The transport sector it is of vital importance, it moves the economy of the whole Union and a great challenge is to mitigate the negative impacts of transport, significantly reduce both atmospheric and acoustic pollution. In this sense, efforts on research and innovation of the electric mobility. The automotive market has more and more models that have abandoned the heat engine in favor of that electric. The next move is up to the institutions that should equip themselves to set up the right infrastructures to recharge the battery of electric cars. Such a breakthrough could transform the livability of numerous urban centers!
